JPM Greetings,

The Goodness of God

God is so good! He is so good to provide for us. He is so good to protect us. He is so good to Father us. He is so good to love us. The creator of all and God of the universe need not be bothered by us mere mortals but He invites us into His presence, into His family (as His children), and even requires that we act in creative partnership with Him to “be fruitful and multiply” (Genesis 1:28 NKJV). He offers us an eternal seat at His table (……‘Blessed are those who are called to the marriage supper of the Lamb!’…..Revelation 19:9 NKJV). He is so, so good!

God is so good to provide for us. At the end of Philippians, Paul encourages the reader, “And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19 ESV). Have any of us not known air to breathe? Have we not had food to eat or water to drink? Have we not known a soft place to lay our heads at night to sleep? All are gifts from a good God who is providing for us. “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows” (James 1:17 NIV).

God is so good to protect us. Oh the many perils we would have suffered had the LORD not been protecting us! I shudder to think. He is so good to protect us.

Psalms 121 (NIV)

“I lift up my eyes to the mountains — where does my help come from?

My help comes from the LORD, the maker of heaven and earth.

He will not let your foot slip— he who watches over you will not slumber;

indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.

The LORD watches over you— the LORD is your shade at your right hand;

the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night.

The LORD will keep you from all harm— he will watch over your life;

the LORD will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.”

God is so good to Father us. As I said at the beginning, it would be completely good and righteous and pure for God to remain God and for us to remain human. We would be separated, even eternally, because of sin. But no. God is so good that he made a way for us to not only come into His Holy presence but to become His children. “Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God” (John 1:12-13 NIV). He desires a closeness to us that is even more intimate than servant, even more intimate than friend. He calls you son. He calls you daughter.

God is so good to love us. “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16 NIV). He loves us so much. He could have scrubbed the whole thing; started over. But because of His love for each of us, because of His desire to be intimately connected to you, He made a way in His Holiness to pay the price for all sin and allow us the freedom to approach Him and enter into relationship with Him. And not just any relationship, but as a child of God.

Holy Father, thank You for being so good to us! Thank You for providing for us. Thank You for protecting us. Thank You for adopting us as your children. Thank you for loving us. You are so, so good! Amen!
